Layers Classroom

Keep your lesson in focus.

Layers Teacher is an always-on-top toolbar for Windows. Translate speech, explain a word, run your classroom routines, and connect student browsers without leaving your slides.

Teaching tools that stay close.

Speech translation & captions

Use push-to-talk speech recognition and translation with floating captions. Speech and translation use online services; a microphone and connection are needed.

Timer & random picker

Use countdown and stopwatch modes. Save class lists and select students at random.

Screen annotation

Draw over the screen and use a pointer while presenting. The overlay follows your lesson rather than requiring a separate whiteboard.

Dictionary & word support

Look up definitions and synonyms, or translate a word or phrase between languages.

Noise meter

Show microphone levels and set a classroom noise threshold. Results depend on your microphone and room setup.

Classroom connection

Create a room, share a code, and work with students who have the Layers Student browser extension.

Connect the class with a room code.

Create a classroom room in the Windows teacher app. Students enter the room code in Layers Student. The teacher toolbar can then send a link, apply Focus Mode or browser lockdown, maintain blocked websites, and set classroom schedules.

Students can ask for help from their toolbar. These controls act through the extension in participating browsers; they do not control the whole student computer.

A separate connection from Guard

Classroom rooms connect teachers and student browsers. Guard Family pairs child devices with a parent account. You don’t need to mix the two systems.

Contact us for the current Windows build and activation instructions. Older public downloads may not contain the current features. Layers Teacher for Mac and the separate Layers Talk app are discontinued.

Access & trial behaviour

The Windows app includes a local 14-day trial. It does not collect payment details or automatically bill when the trial ends. At expiry it asks for a licence key.

We’re inviting teachers to try Layers free of charge during the closed beta, in exchange for honest feedback and testimonials. Email contact@thelayersapp.com for a build and activation instructions. Existing Gumroad keys are still supported for Windows activation.

We’re running a closed beta and inviting people to try Layers free of charge. In return, we’d love your honest feedback and a testimonial about your experience. To take part, email contact@thelayersapp.com
